Title
The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin
The Original Facts and Document Upon Which The Story is Founded
Description
"The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin" was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe and published in 1852 as a factual guide to her first publicly acclaimed novel, "Uncle Tom's Cabin." Harriet Beecher Stowe was faced with outrage and shock from society during a time when the realities of slavery were not advertised or openly acknowledged. Many people were surprised and questioned the credibility of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" because during the 1800s when slavery was a common institution, people found it impolite and unpleasant to discuss the harsh reality that was slavery at the time. If "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was the beginning of the movement to end slavery, then "The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin" was the real, honest awakening that society needed to take a stand to the immoral institution of slavery.
