Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin in 1852 to shock people about the harsh realities of slavery and its effects on the slave and slave owner. The book focuses on the two protagonists, Eliza and Tom, two slaves that handle their captivity differently. The book also illustrates characteristics of different slave owners with varying levels of cruelty. The book as a whole portrays slavery as immoral and corrupt to society.
